discussion
Remarks. Siegel-Causey (1982) reported this species in the southern Gulf of California in three seasons and classified it as an “ uncommon ” species in the area but noted its presence throughout the Gulf in earlier samplings. A surface water species, recorded in the 0 ‒ 66 m depth layer (García Madrigal 2007), but also mentioned as a “ middepth ” species by Siegel-Causey (1982), roughly in the 100 ‒ 500 m depth range.
distribution
Distribution. Cosmopolitan in warm seas. In the eastern Pacific distributed off the Columbia River, USA, western Baja California, and to the Gulf of California, Mexico (Brusca & Hendrickx 2005; García Madrigal 2007). Our observations allow an extension of its southernmost distribution limit in the eastern Pacific to SW Mexico (17 ° 27 ’ 51 ” N). Present in surface waters (Vinogradov et al. 1996).
