Whiptail Ribbonfish. To 110 cm (43.3 in) SL (Rosenblatt and Butler 1977) or 114 cm (44.9 in) TL (Eschmeyer and Herald 1983). Temperate waters of North Pacific Ocean; Japan (Fujii in Masuda et al. 1984); southern Kuril Islands (Parin et al. 1995); southern Oregon (44 ° 26 ’ N, 155 ° 05 ’ W) (Personal communication: University of Washington, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture Fish Collection, Seattle, Washington) to Peru (Nakaya et al. 2009), including Gulf of California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California). Epipelagic (Charter and Moser in Moser 1996) to mesopelagic (Rosenblatt and Butler 1977); depth: adults from a minimum of at least 30 to at least 1,162 m (98 – 3,811) (min.: Martin 2015; max: NWFSC-FRAM).
